Starting a Meditation Practice

Meditation will allow you to observe your thoughts without judgment & bring self-awareness. Learning to filter out the mind chatter and understand the state of your mind will begin to be able to react and change your thought patterns.

Where to begin a practice?

Your environment – In the beginning you will want to have a quiet, tidy, comfortable space. The less distractions the better. You can find a small corner of a room, use your office or maybe a nice space outside.

What is the best Posture/seating for meditating?

Sit in a chair, feet flat and uncrossed on the floor, hands in lap and palms facing up or down.

On a cushion or mat on the floor sit cross-legged, hands on knees, palms facing up or down.

Hold your back straight but relaxed and comfortable. Head level facing forward and then slightly tilt your head forward with chin toward the floor.

Close your eyes to eliminate any visual distractions.

How often/long should I meditate?

For beginners try shorter sessions for 3 to 5 minutes working up to 10 minutes, and then try 15 to 20 minutes which are best. It is more beneficial to try small sessions daily, then to only do one long one occasionally. While all meditations will be helpful. A daily practice in the long term will give you the most benefits.
